Income
Income Marketplace is an Estonian loan marketplace operated by Income Company OÜ in Tallinn, registered in July 2020 and open to investors since January 2021. Investors buy assigned claims on loans that third-party lending companies have already issued: consumer and short-term loans, car rental and rent-to-buy contracts, business loans and litigation funding. According to the platform, every loan listed carries a buyback guarantee owed by the lending company that issued it, triggered once a borrower is more than 60 days late and covering principal and accrued interest. Income itself does not guarantee repayment. Each lending company also keeps a junior share of the loans it lists, which ranks behind the investors' claims, and if that company fails, Income applies the junior share together with the interest and fees of its portfolio to pay investors first. There is no secondary market, so an investment runs to maturity. The lending companies operate in Bulgaria, Estonia, Indonesia, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, the Philippines, Spain and the United Kingdom. One lending company, ClickCash in Brazil, was suspended in November 2022 for not honouring its buyback obligation; Income has been paying those investors in instalments out of its own funds ever since, and the case is still open.
