Modena

Modena is an Estonian consumer lending and Buy Now, Pay Later platform. The operator, Modena Estonia OU, was registered in Tallinn in October 2019 and opened its investor portal in November 2024. Finantsinspektsioon licensed it as a creditor on 2 August 2021 under licence 4.1-1/100, covering the granting of credit to consumers; the group's payment institution licence belongs to its sister company Modena Payments OU. Investors do not pick loans. Money placed in a Vault automatically buys fractions of claims that Modena holds against its own borrowers, from 50 EUR and with no fees. The Dynamic Vault has no fixed term, the Growth Vault runs for twelve months, and there is no secondary market. Modena states that it is obliged to buy a claim back once the borrower is 35 to 90 days late, depending on the contract, so the buyback guarantee is owed by the same company that granted the loan and sold the claim; its terms are in the vault contract, which is only available inside the portal.
